what protects this

The software is not the moat.

A good team could build the embed in two weeks. Here is the part they cannot build in two weeks, and the part we will not pretend to have.

five layers, in the order they matter

01
the network
Every company makes it better for every other company.
One embed brings a company’s users into the same verified network as everyone else’s. More people means denser cities, better matching and fuller rooms, so the tenth company to install Soul gets a materially better product than the first did. A competitor starting today does not start with a worse product. They start with an empty one, and an empty room is not a cheaper version of a full one. It is a different thing that nobody wants.
02
the attendance record
We know who actually showed up.
Anyone can guess which gathering a person might like. We have the record of who committed, who arrived, and who came back, tied to real verified humans across many cities and many companies. That record tunes what gets programmed next. It cannot be bought, scraped or licensed, and it only exists because the gatherings already happened. Every week it gets longer.
03
the position
Only the layer across companies can run the room between them.
A company that builds this in-house can only ever gather its own users. Soul sits across all of them, which is the one thing an in-house team structurally cannot reproduce: a gathering that is Canva’s and Notion’s at once, with both communities in the room. That is not a feature we shipped faster. It is a position, and there is room for one.
04
the supply
Free public places scale where reservations do not.
Gatherings happen at parks, coffee shops, bookstores and markets. Nothing is booked and nobody is owed anything, so we can program a city we have never touched on the day a company signs up. A competitor who builds this on venue partnerships has to negotiate its way into every new market, one room at a time. That is the difference between software economics and an events agency.
05
the identity
Verified once, recognised everywhere.
A member is verified as a real human one time and is then known across every company’s door and every city. That belongs to the network rather than to any one partner, and it is what a company would have to rebuild from zero, per market, to leave.

the questions we get asked

Including the ones with awkward answers.

Is the software the moat?

No, and we would not claim it. A good team could build the embed in a couple of weeks. What they cannot build in a couple of weeks is a network of verified people who already show up, in the cities where a buyer’s users actually live.

Are there patents?

No, and none are pending. We would rather be honest about that than imply protection we do not have. Software patents rarely stop a serious competitor anyway, and none of the five things above depend on one.

What is registered?

The Soul Company, Inc. and the Soul marks and product surfaces we operate. That protects the name and the brand, not the idea, which is the right way round.

What if a big platform copies it?

They can copy the tab. They cannot copy other companies’ users, and they will not run a room that fills half with a rival’s community. The thing that makes this work is being neutral across companies, and an incumbent platform is the one party that structurally cannot be.

What could actually beat us?

Someone reaching real density in real cities before we do. That is the race, which is why the price is low, the sandbox is free and installing takes one script tag. Everything about how this is sold is pointed at density.

The fastest way to understand it is to run it.
